A few things I've learned from using Kievs that I have not seen mentioned elsewhere:
Each of the half-dozen Kievs (plus one Contax II) I've handled
have exhibited a focus shift when the rangefinder patch is panned
across a target at close range. Effect is greatest at 0.9m and
minimal by 2m.
Tip: Error is least (or non-existent) if the extreme left
edge of the patch is used.
I have found that the little bit of excess light-trap felt
extending past the top edge of the cassette prevents the cassette
from going all the way into the camera.
Best case...the film rides low through the gate, and image is
not quite centered on the strip.
Worst case: Film rides up onto the lower guide rail, wreaking
havoc with accurate focus, sprocket holes intruding into image,
film transport problems etc.
Tip: Trim excess felt off with small scissors or nail clippers.

Useful Kiev camera features I learned from re-reading the manual after using the Kievs for a few months, that are not obvious from examining the camera:
3- second exposures: Set shutter to B, and release the self-timer.
Time exposures: Set shutter to B, and turn shutter release button counter clockwise after pressing it down.
